2. श्मशान गड्ढा: जंगल की काली मिट्टी में खोदी गई एक गहरी, आयताकार खाई। यह लक्ष्मण द्वारा एकत्रित सूखी लकड़ी और पवित्र घास से भरी है। दृश्य के दौरान, यह परिवर्तन की एक भट्टी बन जाती है, जो अलौकिक गर्मी से चमकती है।

राम: दिव्य पुरुष, हम केवल उस मार्ग की खोज में हैं जो हमें हमारी अपहृत सीता तक ले जाए।
विश्ववसु: ध्यान से सुनो, राजकुमार। तुम्हारा मार्ग पंपा सरोवर की ओर है। वहाँ ऋष्यमूक पर्वत पर वानर राज सुग्रीव निवास करते हैं।

विश्ववसु: वे भी तुम्हारी तरह दुखी और निर्वासित हैं। उनसे मित्रता करो। उनकी सहायता में ही लंका की विजय की कुंजी है।

विश्ववसु रथ पर सवार होते हैं।
विश्ववसु: जाओ, राम! संसार की नियति तुम्हारे चरणों की प्रतीक्षा कर रही है।
रथ ऊपर की ओर बढ़ता है, प्रकाश की एक लकीर अंधेरे को चीर देती है।

दृश्य 6
बाहरी. मैदान - रात
आग अब अंगारों में बदल चुकी है। राम लक्ष्मण की ओर मुड़ते हैं। उनका धनुष पर हाथ मजबूत है।
राम: पंपा की ओर, लक्ष्मण।
लक्ष्मण: जो आज्ञा, मेरे प्रभु।
वे परछाइयों में चलते हैं, जो अब उतनी अंधेरी नहीं लगतीं।
